What is Ashwagandha?

Ashwagandha is a herb that has a reputation.

Ashwagandha is a herbal plant, scientifically known as withania somnifera that is used for several different purposes. It is a plant belonging to the nightshade family and grows in the form of a shrub. Many medicines use this as the central ingredient and supplements are one of the most common ways that it is consumed in. The herb grows in the dry regions of India. In India, it has a storied history of its herbal benefits and has been used by the people for centuries for the healing properties they believed it had.

How is Ashwagandha Prepared For Supplements?

When producing ashwagandha supplements, the process consists of a few steps.

With ashwagandha supplements, the part of the plant that is most commonly used for manufacturing is the root of the plant.

To make the supplement, the root must go through several different processes. It starts with the extraction of roots from the shrub, which are then pulverized into a fine powder. Cold extraction and filtration come next to separate the root powder from other residues. A polar solvent is used to make a mixture that can separate the required root powder from other elements. The remaining mixture goes under another filtration process and centrifuging is also implemented to make it even purer. As the extracted product separates, it is collected into a separate vessel which concentrates it even further.

The extract then undergoes a drying process which turns it into a granular powder. This powder is pulverized one more time to create the final product which is in the form of fine powder. The powder is then added to the desired supplement mixture.
